Apple Joins The Big-Screen Era At Last, Unveils Bigger iPhone6, 6Plus And Smartwatch

Apple unveils the latest, iPhone 6, 6 Plus and SmartwatchOn Tuesday, Tim Cook, the Apple CEO addressed the audience of more than 2,000 people at the launch of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, touting it as the “biggest advancement in the history of the iPhone.” He said, “They’re better in every single way.”

Despite failing to surprise the audience on Tuesday, Apple did not let down its admirers. There have been numerous leaks and rumours before the official launch, in this line, the iconic Cupertino, California company revealed two new bigger, thinner and faster smartphones: iPhone 6, iPhone Plus along with a new smartwatch called the Apple Watch.

Finally Apple joins the big-screen segment of smartphone. The iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch display that sports a resolution of 1334x750p, whereas iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display sporting a resolution of 1920x1080p.

As announced by Apple, 32GB variant has been scrapped with iPhone 6 and will come in 16, 64 and 128 GB option.

In the US market where telecom carriers provide subsidies on smartphones, these two models will be available on two year contract for $199, $299 and $399 respectively. The iPhone 6 (unlocked version) starts at $649 while the iPhone 6 Plus (unlocked version) starts at $749.

These two latest models will be launched in India on October 17, as per Apple’s local website. The pricing has not been announced officially yet.

Apple shares that the displays deliver higher contrast, improved polarizer and dual-domain pixels for more accurate colour at wider viewing angles. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the thinnest smartphones that Apple has ever made as earlier models iPhone 5s and 5 are 7.6mm thick but iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are 6.8mm and 7.1 mm respectively. Although globally, the thinnest smartphone is designed by Chinese Gionee’s Elife S5.5, that has a thickness of 5.5mm.

Apple fans agree openly that iPhone has battery-life issues. Here comes the good news, the battery life in the latest two models a relatively better than the previous iPhone models. iPhone 6 will deliver 3G talk time of 14 hours and run 10 hours if the user is browsing the internet on 3G and 4G networks, while iPhone 6 Plus will offer 3G talk time of 24 hours and 12 hours of web browsing on 3G and 4G.

iPhone 6, which is powered by the new A8 processor, is up to 50% more energy efficient to deliver you a higher sustained performance, as claimed by Apple. This processor is 64-bit CPU architecture-based which is 20% faster in application processing and 50% faster in rendering graphics compared to its previous models, enabling to sustain performance-intensive tasks like playing a game at higher frame rates.

If we look at the pixel density of the two latest models, the iPhone 6 has 38% more pixels at 1334x750p resolution while the bigger iPhone 6 Plus has 185% more pixels with screen resolution of 1920x1080p.

The new display panels Retina HD, which is a “new generation” of iPhone screens as called by Apple. These LCD panels features ion strengthened glass, however there no word on long-rumoured sapphire glass panel.

The two phones sport an 8MP iSight camera, featuring face detection. Although there is no increase in camera resolution but iPhone 6 takes 43MP panorama photos. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for blur-free photos and videos. They also support landscape mode now.

Apple has also worked upon single handed operation, wherein touching the Home button quickly will shrink down the whole display area such that the buttons on top can easily be accessed.

Now the Power buttoApple's first-ever smartwatch Apple Watchn is on the side, in these two models. It also features a barometer senor that can measure relative elevation.

Apple has also unveiled its first ever smartwatch that they named Apple Watch.

Apple Pay has also been announced by Apple, which is a new mobile payments service that works with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus through NFC, dedicated chip called the Secure Element, and Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This service will also work with the newly introduced Apple Watch, also extending the service to owners of iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.
