Building a Brand for Your Startup

Building a Brand for Your Startup

Good branding is very important, however, building a brand is not an easy task. Most of the internet articles and tutorials focus on giving tips regarding maintaining your brand’s consistency, but not many of them talk about actually starting a brand. Fortunately, it’s possible to do everything on your own, even if you’re not a professional. Therefore, we created a list of suggestions to help you develop your new brand.

Target Market

First you need to identify your target audience. Think about the main group of people you would like to reach out to. It’s always better to aim at a specific group than try to include as many people as possible. The effect will be counterproductive. You can’t please everyone, so don’t bother trying.

Company Name

Choosing a good company name can influence your brand a lot. You need to put some thought into it and you probably won’t get it right on your first try, but be persistent. You have two options: you can name your company, using ordinary words or you can make up a new word which will describe the gist of what you actually do. It’s safer to go with the first choice. However, it might be more beneficial for you to go with the second one since your brand might even be introduced into the language as a symbol of all companies in your field of work.

Your Logo

Your logo is almost as important as the company name. It is the first visual encounter between you and your customers. It needs to be enticing, but at the same time serious, giving the impression of a competent and trustworthy company. You should hire someone to do this for you and spare no expense, it’s worth every penny.

Social Media

Social media is a very popular and effective tool of the modern age. Try not to let the social media be used against you. By that, I mean handle your mistakes well. Unsatisfied customers will always find a way to express their anger and you are supposed to act appropriately. This does not mean delete bad reviews. On the contrary, be polite, helpful and friendly. Try to apologize and fix your mistakes. This way you’ll show your customers that you’re a real person and that you are trying hard. These two traits are highly appreciated, especially nowadays.

Promotional Items

Some promotion can’t hurt, can it? Try buying some items like key chains, pens, magnets or stickers. Gift cards are wildly popular lately and they make people happy. Plus, they’re a great way to attract customers and also make them see who you are and how great you are at your job.

Your Employees

Another thing you must know is that your employees impact your brand – every single one of them. It is very important for you to carefully choose them. You need to have a well-oiled machine which means your customer support needs to be always available and ready to react, your website needs to be updated multiple times a day, your finance department needs to work fast etc. All these things impact your brand directly.

Hopefully, this article helped you get the idea about where to start when establishing a brand and what are the key things you need to keep in mind. Always remember – it’s easier to create an excellent brand than to fix a broken one. It’s better to spend even more time and money than you planned if it is going to be done right, because it will pay off later on.
