Occasionally our friend’s family loses their mind and tells us about how frustrated they are with their life and people around them. This is a common situation nowadays. Due to frustration and agony they end up in thanks to something severe. Everyone has some or the other problems where they are nervous or unconscious of what’s around them.

In this case, they want someone to stand by them and be their hope. In response, we can smile and console them telling that “everything is going to be all right with time” or just agreeing with them for a split second. The merits of positive thinking have been given much attention in personal growth. In a fast changing world, only our higher order thinking skills can keep us aware, engaged and growing.

Focus and self-control are essential life skills that translate into just about any definition of success you can come up with. Want to be less anxious and depressed? Focus and self-control can help you there. Our multimedia world is significantly rewiring our brains; there is no question that people today feel the pressure to do more with less time, an ever before.

Perspective taking skills are rooted in a cognitive skill called, “theory of mind.” A formal definition of the theory of mind is, “an understanding of other people’s mental state” that is their thoughts, feelings, desire, motivation and intentions. People use this information to predict and understand their behavior, predict what people may do or say next, and to think about one’s social behavior and adjust it accordingly. Theory of mind may result in difficulties with being sensitive to other people feelings.

Being able to communicate effectively is the most important of all the skills. Communication is being able to transfer information to one place to another, whether this be vocal, written, visually or none verbally that is by using gestures and pitch of the voice. The ability to communicate information accurately, clearly and intellectually is a very vital life skill and something that should not be overlooked.

Pattern recognition is something in which our brain is exceptionally good at. We can make the abstract connection between things and ideas that are extremely dissimilar. This is the basis of creativity and logical thinking. For this reason, most of the work is being done in the field of artificial intelligence based on pattern recognition models that are build up from simple to complex.

Critical thinking is the mental process of analyzing or evaluating information. Once you have established a solid foundation or a healthy self-concept, it is important to be able to think critically, or to reason. However, much of our thinking is reactive, biased or uninformed and often prejudiced. To access our role in, and the consequences of any actions we take, we must be able to evaluate and determine what is taking place in a given situation.

When we are working towards an important goal, the last thing, we want to face big, unexpected challenges or obstacles. When this happens, it usually means a major delay, added learning curve, greater expense, or some other unplanned complication. Challenging circumstances are part of life; that is not going to change. However, our attitude and perception are something we create. They are not dictated by the circumstances. So we will choose to look for a blessing in every challenge.

Self-directed engaged learning is one of the seven essential life skills. Parents, teachers, and workplace leaders take note while individuals play an enormous role in guiding their learning. They take many cues from their parents and mentors by observing them closely and designing challenges that will engage their natural curiosity while pushing them to seek novel solutions.
