Writing a thank you letter after a job is a good practice. It is important to thank everyone you interviewed with and everyone who assisted with your job search. Even if you think the offer is in the bag, you can always improve your chances of getting the job if you send a thank you letter. The thank you letter should emphasize your core strength and the way you value the offer. You can also add information you didn’t discuss in the interview. An email is not enough to express the gratitude you possess for the company who offered you the job. So expressing thanks after an interview can boost your chances of being considered as a decent employee for the job.

Many employers say that when it comes down to the hiring a candidate, there are often a just handful of candidate left in the running. At that point, employers look at the detail, not only of each job seeker’s qualification, but also how he or she performed during a job search, including writing a thanks letter. Writing a thank you letter may play a bigger role in getting a job offer.

There is no harm if we don’t write a thank-you letter. But we should always acknowledge the patience and the effort an interviewer has put while taking the interview. It is a nice gesture and shows how much you are thankful to them for offering you the job.

A thank you letter may be short, but there’s a lot you can achieve with one.

There is a sample thank you letter where the body of the letter should read like one as described in the following lines.

“Thank you for having a wonderful talk in this morning and discussing the responsibilities and insights of my position. I very much enjoyed it and excited about the possibility of joining your team.

I know what it takes to run a busy and successful firm. How much hard work is required to grow the firm. I will offer all the help and my knowledge to make it more successful. The job, as you presented it, seems to be a very good match for my skills and interests. The creative approach to the position that you described confirmed my desire to work with you.

Also to my enthusiasm, I will bring the position strong writing skills, assertiveness and the ability to encourage others to work cooperatively with the department. My artistic background will help me to work with artists on staff and provide me with an understanding of the visual aspects of our work.

I understand your need for the administrative support. My detail orientation and organizational skills will help to free your deal with larger issues. I neglected to mention during my interview that I worked for a firm as a virtual intern as a writer. This experience helped me develop my writing skills and creative analytical thinking.

Again, thank you for considering me for this exciting opportunity. As you requested, I’m enclosing a list of professional references. Please feel free to call me if you need any additional information. I appreciate the time you took to interview me. I’m very interested in working for you and look forward to hearing from you about this position.”

Instead of simply expressing gratitude, a successful note builds on the interview by illustrating what the candidate also offers to what was discussed. Also offering a letter as soon as you get the job signifies that you are in too much hurry and drains much of the significance of the gesture. Sometimes very silly mistakes are detected in a thanks letter that can be fatal as it can also leave you fired from the job. This gesture may show the lack of attention to matter or not being sincere about company processes that it described. Also a  thank you letter should be personal and not copied.
