Building a more effective and high performance team requires more than just assembling a group of quality individuals. Any team in a company consists of four categories- Founders (the people who invented the idea of company’s business and brought it to the marketing field), Hired team (these are the people who are hired for numerous purposes in various depts. Like marketing, accounts, HRD, customer delivery etc.), outsourced partners (these are the third party service providers including your web developer, lawyer, digital media agency etc.) And the Advisory board (it is a body which advises the management of the corporation by bringing credibility to the company through their own experiences).

An advisory board is a crucial part of any team. It is advisable to have people from various backgrounds because it is not just about domain knowledge, but also bandwidth and perspective. It is the experience that counts. For instance, in a an e-commercial company, the advisory board should have various technology gurus, organisation-building expert, a good marketer, a finance professional and so on.

Here are some key facts that will help you in building a strong and effective team:

Define the purpose

Define the purpose of a particular team, their motive and what results are expected to be achieved out of the team. Classify each person’s role in the team in order to optimize the output coming from the team as a whole.

Assemble the team

Try to achieve a balance and harmony among the team members to avoid any conflict between them. Select members with complementary skills in order to build a trust and mutual respect in them.

Appreciation

Let your team members know that they are appreciated for their work. Try to give them a positive attention and focus on their strengths. Try complimenting them before giving your advice on improving in a particular area.

Seeking help

Try solving the team’s problem as a head without procrastinating them. This will make them work more confidently without any doubts and fears of spoiling the motive.

Monitor and Review

Try to review everyday task accomplished by the team through meetings or one-to-one check to ensure positive progress going in the team. Discuss measures of improvements that could be incorporated in their ways.
